Rustiqué Wines – River Road Wine Trail

Christy wears a hat and sunglasses and holds a glass of wine at Rustiqué Wines on the River Road Wine Trail.
I’m still daydreaming about my visit to Rustiqué Wines for their Grand Opening.

We drove out to the River Road Wine Trail for the opening party of the new Rustiqué Wines tasting room. River Road runs through the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA and several wineries have their tasting rooms along this route.

Rustiqué Wines is family-owned and operated and named after Rusti, the matriarch of the family. While the family has been making wine since 2006, they only opened their public tasting room in 2021.

Rustiqué is located directly off of River Road in a rustic, converted barn. The tasting room has both indoor and outdoor seating. For the event, Rustiqué was pouring two Chardonnays and two Pinot Noirs to taste and live music.

For those not familiar with Monterey Wine Country, the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is best known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These two varietals are also the ones you’ll find on the menu in the local tasting rooms most often.

Another fun fact – one of the key features of this appellation is the strong afternoon winds. These winds keep the temperature cooler and contributes to a longer growing season.

Unfortunately, the Salinas Valley winds blew one of my glasses over, but the staff were nice enough to repour the taste. If you look closely at this photo I’m not holding my hat to be cute, I’m trying to keep it from blowing away again!

I enjoyed sitting outside at the foot of the Santa Lucia mountains, listening to live music and enjoying a glass of wine.

I’m looking forward to visiting again.

I take my judging duties very seriously! Last year was so much fun and I’m happy they asked me to return.

If you love live cooking demonstrations, wine pairings, and chowder, then this is the event for you. There’s wine tasting and small bites while the chowder is prepared live, and then everyone gets to taste the finished chowders.

It’s always my favorite event during Monterey Car Week, because food and wine are in the spotlight - along with some absolutely amazing cars.

I also love that so many of our local wineries are at the event, and it’s a great opportunity to try new-to-me producers as well. Thank you @cruwinery for the ticket, I had so much fun!

This event is not only my first event for Monterey Car Week, but it’s one of my favorites - they even close Del Monte Blvd off!

@bernarduswinery came in strong with one of the largest bottles of wine I’ve ever seen - I was told it’s a Methusala which holds 6 liters of wine!

@adoberoadwines brought in a great selection of their wines, including their racing themed box set and their race car!

Cheers to the start of Car Week!
Trend or no trend, it’s always chic to make home h Trend or no trend, it’s always chic to make home happy hour into an occasion and especially when you have wines from @cruwinery. #CRUpartner

I don’t know about you, but this warmer weather has me reaching for lighter wines especially Albariño and Rosè and I’m a big fan of both of CRŪ’s.

I’ve also always enjoyed home happy hour - while I love exploring new wine bars and restaurants, sometimes the best place to connect is at home with family and friends. Plus there’s no dress code or waitlist.

Now that it’s Car Week in Monterey, I know I’m going to enjoy a glass or two of wine at home - no reservation required!

Part of the @methodoregon Grand Tasting Weekend, this educational event walked us through the production process for traditional method sparkling wine and was followed by a Bubbles Block Party where we celebrated all things Oregon sparkling wine.

After seeing the behind the scenes of the production process, and then tasting vintage bubbles I have a new found appreciation for sparkling wine.

Thank you @lytlebarnett and @methodoregon for hosting us!
