It’s that time of year when the grapes start to ripen and change colors, known by the french term Veraison.
Did you know the grapes for red wine start green and then ripen to their deep purple hues? As you can see from the pictures, not all the grapes in a cluster ripen at once.
Depending on the variety, grapes achieve veraison at different times, even in the same vineyard. There was a block of Syrah in the vineyard a couple of rows down that was still completely green.
I spent the day with friends old and new at Escolle Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands for the Caracciolli Cellars annual Bubble Bus event.
